First-generation gamma detection
devices consist of a gamma probe wired to a stationary
console in the operating room. Determining the gamma count
usually requires a circulating nurse to announce the reading
on the machine display, which is not visible to the surgeon
in the sterile field. In addition, such machines typically
require additional time for set-up, plus more time for tear-down
following the procedure.
Gamma Finder® is the only self-contained, cordless, battery operated gamma detection probe. The large
display is conveniently placed on the opposite end of the
gamma probe, enabling the surgeon to easily correlate the
sound feedback with the numeric display. Setting up the Gamma
Finder probe consists of simply slipping the device into its
own custom-designed disposable sterile bag and depressing
any button. Gamma Finder comes equipped with a 10-second count
feature as well as a binary pitch mode. With its small, convenient
size, Gamma Finder does not take up valuable operating room
space, and there are no cords to get in the way during the
procedure.
